February, 2014

Well, it's been quite a winter so far, hasn't it?  It's easy to feel like we're "done" with winter and wonder where spring is.  But I've been telling myself lately that God is not done with winter yet, and He's in charge!  We don't know or understand all that He is doing through this long, rather harsh winter.  We just feel the cold, experience the cumbersomeness of bundling up every time we need to go out, and dread the driving on slick roads.  But there's an entire realm we have little knowledge of, where God is working and doing unimaginable things even through this season we find so easy to complain about.

Maybe . . . maybe we could choose to look at the beauty of the pure whiteness around us, reminding us of how clean our Jesus has made our hearts when we could do NOTHING to clean ourselves.  Maybe we can appreciate the silent nights, where no cricket or frog will drown out the stillness and we can quiet our hearts and listen to what the Spirit is trying to say to us.  Maybe we can sit by the fire or by a heating vent and surrender our hearts, minds, bodies, attitudes, future . . . our EVERYTHING . . . to the Father.

Maybe we can encourage each other to choose JOY!  :)

Maybe we should.

In the meantime, wrap your hands around a warm, delicious mug of something and read Julie's interview with Karen Marvel and my devotional, The Key of Self-Control.  For many other good reads, click on the archived columns on the right side of this page.

Spring is coming!  It is!  Let's wait for it with eager anticipation while living our lives fully right now. :)

You are loved,
